How To Take Care Of Your Jewellery
When we buy jewellery, most of tend not to keep the greatest care when maintaining its original beauty. I suppose mainly because without researching, the majority of us would not know how to. If you're looking to maintain the beauty of your jewellery for years to come, here are some quick and easy tips to prevent tarnishing, scratching and dullness.
1. Avoiding soaps, detergents & chemicals
One of the main reasons our jewellery is unable to maintain its original colour is due to it coming into contact with abrasive soaps, chemicals, detergents or even any alcohol based liquids. A lot of our jewellery here at Nikita by Niki is sterling silver or silver plated, so we do recommend that you try to keep away from any soaps or detergents.
2. Keep away from wood
Avoid leaving your jewellery on wood for long periods of time as this can speed up the tarnishing process, as can any chemically treated surface.
3. Avoid leaving it in the sunlight
In order for our jewellery to maintain its pristine condition, it needs to be kept out of direct sunlight. Do not keep jewellery in direct sunlight as with prolonged exposure it can cause the silver or gold to tarnish and lose some of its colour.
4. Keep Gold & Silver jewellery separate
If possible, try to avoid keeping your gold and silver jewellery together as overtime this can cause damage and again tarnish your jewellery. Why not check out our beautiful Solid Marble Jewellery Tree, where you can keep your gold and silver jewellery on separate ends.
5. Store it separately
Where and how you store your jewellery is extremely important. Depending on how you store your jewellery, it can either help or harm it. Why not check out our stunning Agate Glass Jewellery Trinket Box, beautiful as well as extremely handy in keeping all your jewellery separate.
6. Looking after Sterling Silver jewellery
A lot of our jewellery here at Nikita by Niki is made from sterling silver or is sterling silver coated. The best way to prevent tarnishing is to store your jewellery in a clean, dry airtight container. Also, try not to leave your silver jewellery in the bathroom, as the humidity can speed up the oxidation process which results in your jewellery becoming tarnished.
As mentioned before, we also recommend that your silver sterling jewellery is kept away from soaps, detergents and any harsh chemicals.
7. Keep away from sweat
Along with keeping your jewellery away from nail polish, chlorine and perfume it is extremely important that you avoid wearing your jewellery when you sweat, including any sort of strenuous exercise as this can tarnish your jewellery.
8. Jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off
You may have heard this one before, but it is extremely important that jewellery be the last thing you put on when getting ready and the first thing you take off at the end of the night. This is to ensure that your jewellery is not in close contact with your perfume for too long.
